The victory was all the more spectacular given Padua Franciscan's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 468th, while Gilmour Academy is ranked 146th).
Padua Franciscan's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JT Giannakopoulos, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Riley Cervenka was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Padua Franciscan is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Gilmour Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Padua Franciscan will face off against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Gilmour Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Hawken at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
