McEwen (Tenn.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as it threw a touchdown with under a minute left, bringing the team to victory over
Houston County (Erin, Tenn.) 42-38.
By the end of the third, the Warriors found themselves trailing by 2 points as the Fighting Irish captured the lead thanks to four scores in the quarter. Houston County scored on a
Josh Tharp touchdown pass to
Hunter Moran, a two-point conversion, a touchdown pass by Tharp to Moran and a two-point conversion in the quarter.
HC's Moran played well. The junior running back ran for one touchdown and caught three touchdowns. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.
The Erin school came in giving up 16.4 points per game this season.
McEwen got revenge for last year's 21-14 loss to the Fighting Irish with the victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for MHS, which lost to White House-Heritage last week, 27-0. The defeat comes as a step back for Houston County, which notched a 28-20 victory over Clarksville Academy in its previous outing.
McEwen (3-5) goes up against Jo Byrns in a A District 10 game matchup next week, while Houston County (6-2) locks horns with Nashville Christian also in a A District 10 game.
