Riverbend has gone 8-1 against Courtland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Bears will square off against the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Riverbend is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.
Riverbend is headed into the match having just posted their closest victory since April 4th on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Orange County 4-3.
Chloe King was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). King was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Emma Smith was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Jameson Snell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Courtland started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Spotsylvania. They came up short against the Knights on Thursday, falling 14-4. The Cougars have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Courtland saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddi Dunavant, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Another was Brooklyn Buchanan, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Riverbend pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Courtland, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverbend hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Courtland struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Riverbend's way against Courtland in their previous matchup back in March, as Riverbend made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
