Basketball Game Preview: Fillmore Central Panthers vs. David City Scouts

The Fillmore Central Panthers will take on the David City Scouts at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fillmore Central has four straight victories, David City has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Fillmore Central is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Heartland: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Fillmore Central's way against Heartland on Thursday as Fillmore Central made off with a 79-59 win. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season.

Daniel Stoner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 31 points and nine rebounds. Those 31 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiffin Theobald, who went 8 of 20 on his way to 18 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, David City lost to Cross County on the road by a 44-28 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Scouts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 238th, while the Cougars are ranked 35th).

Fillmore Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points per game. As for David City, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

Fillmore Central barely slipped by David City when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 46-45. Will Fillmore Central repeat their success, or does David City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
