Akron is 8-2 against Caliche since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Rams will square off against the Buffaloes at 12:00 p.m. Akron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Akron had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Burlington on Monday. The Rams blew past the Cougars 13-3. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by nine runs or more this season.
Akron got a massive performance out of Jax Kusel, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakzon Livesay, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Akron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2025.
Meanwhile, Caliche came up short against Wray on Thursday, falling 13-3.
Zachary Yost was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases. Colton Cochran was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Akron is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Caliche, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Akron has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Caliche struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Akron got the 'W' when the teams last played on April 10th against Caliche by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
