The Pleasant Grove Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pleasant Grove is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Pleasant Grove suffered a rough 63-41 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. While losing is never fun, Pleasant Grove can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 391st, while the Wildcats are ranked 96th).
Despite the loss, Pleasant Grove had strong showings from Nathan Ruff, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, and Pharrell Williams, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Williams posted two or more blocks.
Meanwhile, Cosumnes Oaks fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Thundering Herd on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Thundering Herd by a score of 57-54. Cosumnes Oaks has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Pleasant Grove dropped their record down to 9-13 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Cosumnes Oaks, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season.
Pleasant Grove came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wolfpack in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 73-70. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pleasant Grove since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
