The Kewaunee Storm will take on the Valders Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Kewaunee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.
While Kewaunee didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over Sevastopol on Thursday. The Storm have beaten the Pioneers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Pioneers has come to flipping the script.
Breanna Riha was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braelyn Chevalier, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 games. Vivian Bootz was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Kewaunee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Valders hadn't done well against Mishicot recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Indians.
Like Kewaunee, Valders also got a great game from a two-way player: Megan Hochkammer. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Hochkammer was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Addison Spindler was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kyra Kocian, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Kewaunee's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Valders, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Valders' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Kewaunee has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. It's a different story for Valders, though, as they've only averaged .324. Will they be able to contain Kewaunee's hitters?
Kewaunee might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from Valders in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Storm have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
