Moorefield has gone a perfect 10-0 against Tygarts Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Yellow Jackets will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Moorefield has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Musselman hit Moorefield with a 12-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Yellow Jackets lost 15-2 to the Applemen. The defeat continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their meetings with the Applemen: they've now lost six in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tygarts Valley). They blew past East Hardy 19-11 on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 7, 2021, but that streak is no more.
Jacob Wamsley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Tygarts Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Tygarts Valley got a massive performance out of Austin Gear, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave Gear a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Austin Wilson, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Tygarts Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .547. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Tygarts Valley pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Moorefield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Moorefield skirted past Tygarts Valley 8-7 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Yellow Jackets repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
