Potosi and Farmington are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Trojans will head out to challenge the Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Potosi has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Farmington will arrive with eight straight victories.
On Wednesday, Potosi came up short against West County and fell 6-3. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly three runs.
Potosi saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ayden Ricketts, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Farmington got the win against Hillsboro on Wednesday by a conclusive 8-1. Considering the Knights have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aiden Redmond spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tatem Tinsley was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Trevor Sutherland, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Farmington pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Potosi, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Potosi has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Potosi suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Farmington in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
