Lancaster hasn't had much luck against South Pointe recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lancaster Bruins are taking a road trip to take on the South Pointe Stallions at 6:00 p.m.
Last Wednesday, Lancaster ended up a good deal behind A.C. Flora and lost 57-40.
Despite the defeat, Lancaster saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ava Wilson went 6 for 10 on her way to 12 points and three steals.
Meanwhile, South Pointe put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past York 69-12. The Stallions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 34 points or more this season.
Lancaster better keep an eye on JaNyia Cunningham. She was instrumental in South Pointe's win, going 10 of 17 on her way to 25 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleigh Lucas, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 18 points and five steals.
South Pointe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.
South Pointe's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Lancaster, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lancaster has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.7 boards per game. However, it's not like South Pointe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Lancaster ended up a good deal behind South Pointe in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, losing 61-46. Can Lancaster avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
