5A Centennial recap November 13, 2013
Cherry Creek added to the longest winning streak in 5A Centennial this week by beating Overland, 49-14. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Bruins.
The Trailblazers fell to Cherry Creek 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brent Halliburton was a bright spot for Overland, as he threw for 200 yards in the loss.
Dave Logan's team's dynamic duo of Cameron Brucker and Mikey McCauley proved to be unstoppable against Seth Replogle's team, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brucker threw for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns and McCauley had 95 yards receiving. Tyus Carter helped Cherry Creek's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 57 yards.
Sean Kopel was a key player and the best on defense this week as Grandview defeated Regis Jesuit. The 5-foot-11 defensive back recorded 1 fumble and racked up 1 sack.
Chukwuma Obinnah was a force in the backfield as the Wolves beat the Raiders.
He was 18-26 with 0 interceptions.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Trailblazers' Austin Conway and Khalil Jenkins have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Conway has thrown for 1,847 yards this season, while Jenkins has 42 catches for 778 yards. Cameron Smith from Cherokee Trail leads the league in rushing with 1,382 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Cougars and the Bruins. Cherokee Trail enters the contest ranked fifth in the state, while Cherry Creek ranks second.
Obinnah of the Grandview is just 7 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 143 carries Obinnah has accumulated 993 yard this year.
The league will see a high scoring game when Monte Thelen's team and the Bruins face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Cougars comes in having scored 385 this season, while Cherry Creek has scored 372. Cherokee Trail scored 41 points last week as it defeated Mountain Range.
