South Sumter is 8-2 against Leesburg since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. South Sumter's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Freeport 14-0. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Tyson Lake was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, Ismael Rodriguez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Gabe Sabilona was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
South Sumter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Leesburg fell victim to The Villages Charter and their airtight pitching crew last Friday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-0 to the Buffalo, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
South Sumter's record now sits at 10-2. As for Leesburg, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Leesburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Sumter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. It's a different story for Leesburg, though, as they've only averaged .231. Will they be able to contain South Sumter's hitters?
