Amarillo and Monterey are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Sandies will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Plainsmen at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Amarillo's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Lubbock as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Sandies, who have now won 18 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Amree Anglin, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Lubbock off the board. Anglin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Braylee Shuffield, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madilynn Russell, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Monterey came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 12-7 win over the Rebels.

Amarillo is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monterey, they pushed their record up to 12-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Amarillo took their victory against Monterey in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 25-2 score. Will the Sandies repeat their success, or do the Plainsmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
