Jiyah Caban made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Homestead owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. Everything went their way against Mountain View as they made off with a 6-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Spartans since April 8, 2022.
Mountain View's batters probably weren't too happy with Mackenzie Smith, who pitched a no hitter and racked up six Ks (she gave up zero walks).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Leela Menon, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gwyn Romero, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Homestead is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Fremont beat Homestead 4-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Firebirds repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
