After flying high against Dixon on Tuesday, New Bern came back down to earth. The Bears fell just short of the Ashley Screaming Eagle by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The Bears were not able to make up for their defeat to the Screaming Eagle from their previous meeting back in August of 2022.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, New Bern sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 22-25, 27-25, 25-27, 15-9.
Louisa Reno paced New Bern's offense, picking up 17 kills. Reno got some help from Naomi Banks and her 35 assists. Kira Follet controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Sarah Brannin had a dynamite game For Ashley., getting four aces and one block. Madison Dameron was another key player, getting eight aces and seven digs.
New Bern's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Bern will face off against New Hanover at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ashley, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Millbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
