Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon-Enola's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Mt. Vernon-Enola had to endure a five-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They never let the Shirley Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Friday. The Warhawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jack Lawrence and Logan McNair made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lawrence struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, McNair pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Lawrence scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-2, while McNair scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. McNair has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Rodgers, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Henry, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mt. Vernon-Enola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mt. Vernon-Enola's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Shirley, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon-Enola will venture away from home to square off against Quitman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shirley, they will head out on the road to challenge Wonderview at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Shirley has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
