Jefferson County has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the South Pike Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully South Pike likes a good challenge.
Even though Jefferson County has not done well against Port Gibson recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Jefferson County snuck past Port Gibson with a 75-71 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, even though Wesson scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, South Pike still came out on top. Everything went South Pike's way against Wesson as South Pike made off with a 77-56 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory South Pike has posted since December 12, 2023.
South Pike's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jovon Leavy, who scored 27 points along with nine rebounds, and Lavell Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thompson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Donald Lewis, who scored six points along with four steals.
The victory got Jefferson County back to even at 9-9. As for South Pike, their win bumped their record up to 9-13.
Jefferson County came up short against South Pike when the teams last played on January 9th, falling 77-73. Can Jefferson County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
