They escaped with a win against Worthington Kilbourne by the margin of a single free throw, 38-37. Given Westerville South's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Worthington Kilbourne is ranked 311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westerville South's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Deziah Dupree, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Cirrye White, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Worthington Kilbourne had strong showings from Oliviah Wilkerson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, and Reagan Wilkinson, who scored eight points along with four steals. Wilkerson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games.
Westerville South's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. As for Worthington Kilbourne, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Westerville South won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Unioto at 12:00 p.m. on January 13th. Averaging 69.6 so far this season, Unioto's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Westerville South better be ready for a challenge. As for Worthington Kilbourne, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Olentangy Orange at 7:30 p.m.
