Even though the Port Gibson Blue Waves have not done well against the Raymond Rangers recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. It was close, but Port Gibson ultimately received the gift of a 45-42 victory from a begrudging Blue Wavessquad. Winning may never get old, but they sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Port Gibson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ger'Kiya Flowers, who scored 18 points. The match was Flowers' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Kennaja Goods was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Port Gibson's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Raymond, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Port Gibson will challenge Wilkinson County at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Wilkinson County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Port Gibson is ranked 120th). As for Raymond, they will head out on the road to face off against Warren Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Warren Central is on a four-game streak of home losses, Raymond a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
