The Eaton Reds will head out on the road to face off against the Pagosa Springs Pirates at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Eaton sitting on three straight wins and Pagosa Springs on five.
With a playoff game on the line, Eaton rose to the challenge on Saturday. They skirted past Kent Denver 31-28.
Eaton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Davey, who threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns. Eaton also got help from Alex Loyd who showed off his sure hands for 96 receiving yards.
Even though Pagosa Springs has not done well against La Junta recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Pagosa Springs came out on top against La Junta by a score of 14-7. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but Pagosa Springs was the (much) better team in the second half.
Gavin Lindahl got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 186 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.5 yards per carry.
Eaton's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Pagosa Springs, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Eaton against Pagosa Springs when the teams last played back in November of 2020 as the squad secured a 41-7 victory. Does Eaton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pagosa Springs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
