Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Maranatha Christian Eagles, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 49-0 defeat at the hands of Holtville on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 35 points in the game before, Maranatha Christian couldn't push the score so high this time.
Karlsen Drake threw for 56 yards on six of 17 attempts. Shane Piester was his top target, picking up 47 receiving yards.
Holtville can attribute much of their success to Griffin Garcia, who rushed for 151 yards while picking up 7.2 yards per carry.
Maranatha Christian has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Holtville, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Maranatha Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Holtville will take on Army-Navy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Army-Navy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
