The Cape Fear Colts will square off against the Scotland Fighting Scots on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cape Fear 4, Scotland 0.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Cape Fear is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Southern Alamance as they made off with a 17-7 victory. Considering the Colts have won 17 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
McKinley Kolasa made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. Kolasa was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Addie Davis was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Amari Adams also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Meanwhile, Scotland waltzed into their game on Thursday with 23 straight wins... but they left with 24. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 5-0. The Fighting Scots' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last five contests.
Not much got past Avery Stutts, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Western Alamance off the board. Stutts has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 25 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emily Sampson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Lewis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
Scotland lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matches.
Scotland pushed their record up to 25-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cape Fear, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.
Everything went Cape Fear's way against Scotland in their previous meeting back in May of 2017, as Cape Fear made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
