Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for International

International extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Peter Machado. The International Gryphons came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 61-60 W against the Muncie Burris Owls thanks in part to Machado, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 13 rebounds. The match was his third in a row with at least 16 points.

Another player making a difference was Evan Johnson, who posted 17 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. That's the most assists he has posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Muncie Burris still got an impressive performance from Gavin Mitchell, who went 8-for-17 en route to 25 points and five rebounds. Mitchell continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Tyler Bennett was another key player, going 7-for-13 on his way to 16 points and seven boards.

International's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-10. As for Muncie Burris, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

International and Muncie Burris could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. International will square off against Riverside at 6:30 p.m. on February 25th down 242 places (423 vs. 181). Similarly, Muncie Burris (ranked 441st) will meet Shenandoah (ranked 191st) at 7:30 p.m. on February 22nd.
