The Wasilla Warriors will be taking part in a tournament against the West Anchorage Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wasilla is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Wasilla barely beat Palmer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warriors blew past the Moose 11-5 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Moose: they've now won six in a row.
Jacob Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Wasilla got a massive performance out of Whalen Havlerson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Havlerson also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ramon Guzman, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, West Anchorage was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They fell 5-1 to South Anchorage. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Wolverines recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
West Anchorage also got a good showing from Mike Chartier, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
West Anchorage's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Wasilla, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
