The Cyprus Pirates will face off against the Kearns Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cyprus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Cyprus took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against West Jordan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pirates narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Jaguars 4-2.

Dj Oveson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Easton Anderson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Rene Hidalgo, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Kearns was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Taylorsville, falling 14-1.
Cyprus has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Kearns, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14.
Kearns' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cyprus hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. It's a different story for Kearns, though, as they've only averaged .216. Will they be able to contain Cyprus' hitters?
Cyprus was able to grind out a solid victory over Kearns in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 7-4. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
