The Plainfield Quakers will be taking part in a tournament against the Danville Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.
Plainfield fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Hamilton Southeastern on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Royals by a score of 57-55. The Quakers have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Hannah Menser and Maya Makalusky. Makalusky had a solid game and dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Meanwhile, Menser was balling out in the loss, going 8 of 16 on her way to 24 points and five assists.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Danville over Cascade in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Danville blew Cascade out of the water with a 62-29 final score. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 28 points or more this season.
Danville's win came from a few key players Plainfield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Emma Ancelet, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 assists. That's the most assists she has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Davis, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.
Danville pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Plainfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Plainfield and Danville are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Plainfield hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.9 points per game. However, it's not like Danville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 65.3 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Plainfield took their victory against Danville in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 58-36. Will Plainfield repeat their success, or does Danville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
