The Watervliet Panthers will head out to take on the Hartford Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Watervliet will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Watervliet's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Bridgman 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Cael Morris made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Morris was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Nathan Harasewicz was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025. Mark Birmele also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Watervliet always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hartford posted their closest victory since April 28, 2025 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past White Pigeon 3-1.
Timmy Wimbley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hartford let Jose Perales and Calvin Wimbley run wild. Perales went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Wimbley went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Ryan Huminsky was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Watervliet's record now sits at 19-6-1. As for Hartford, their record is now 13-9.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Watervliet has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Hartford struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Watervliet was able to grind out a solid victory over Hartford in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
