Basketball Game Preview: Bronson Eagles vs. Chiefland Indians

Bronson and Chiefland are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2020, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Bronson Eagles will jump right back in to play the Chiefland Indians at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Bronson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Chiefland likes a good challenge.

Bronson will head into Thursday's game hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 25-point drubbing they dealt Ocala Christian on Thursday. Bronson blew past Ocala Christian 88-63. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Justice Phillips was his usual excellent self, going 23 of 37 on his way to 51 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards. The matchup was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Talon Harris, who went 11 for 17 on his way to 23 points and eight assists.

Bronson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Chiefland earned a 48-38 victory over Taylor County on Thursday.

Bronson is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Chiefland, their record is now 6-2.

Bronson couldn't quite finish off Chiefland in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 43-40. Can Bronson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
