There's no place like home for the Lanier Christian Academy Lightning, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Thursday. They escaped with a win on Tuesday against Fideles Christian by the margin of a single free throw, 49-48. That's another feather in the cap for Lanier Christian Academy, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Lanier Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jia Thapar, who scored 20 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Adelyn Gough, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
Defeat or not, Fideles Christian got some senior leadership from Jael Flinn and Laci Harkins. Flinn scored 23 points, while Harkins. scored 18 points. That was a full 37.5% of Fideles Christian's points, marking the 17th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Lanier Christian Academy pushed their record up to 16-8 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Fideles Christian, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lanier Christian Academy will square off against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Hall comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Fideles Christian, they will head out on the road to take on the at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
