Softball Recap: West Valley Wins Going Away Against Yreka

West Valley barely beat Yreka the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Miners on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Aubree Wertz and Cadynce Gippner made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Wertz tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gippner tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Wertz got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Gippner went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those four runs gave Gippner a new career-high.

In other batting news, Maddy Pemberton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

West Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yreka only posted an OBP of .130.

West Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Yreka, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

West Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 6-0 defeat against Lassen on the 22nd. As for Yreka, they have also already played their next match, a 15-7 loss against Central Valley on the 22nd.
