The Capistrano Valley Cougars were the 61-52 winner over the San Clemente Tritons when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Capistrano Valley fell 46-38 to San Clemente on Friday. While losing is never fun, Capistrano Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while San Clemente is ranked 64th).
San Clemente got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chase Tolliver out in front who scored six points along with 22 rebounds. Christian Fernandez was another key contributor, scoring 20 points.
Capistrano Valley has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for San Clemente, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Capistrano Valley will take on Tesoro at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for San Clemente, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Trabuco Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Trabuco Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
