The Douglas County Huskies will face off against the Heritage Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Douglas County is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against ThunderRidge on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Douglas County was dealt a 53-12 loss at the hands of ThunderRidge. The contest marked the Huskies' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Douglas County's defeat came about despite a quality game from Addison Fitzgerald, who posted six points.
Meanwhile, Heritage took a blow against Regis Jesuit on Tuesday, falling 83-18. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Raiders are ranked tenth).
Despite the loss, Heritage saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Addy Buseck earned no points and 13 boards. Buseck has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Lexi Robinson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.
Even though they lost, Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.
Heritage has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Douglas County, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-17.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Douglas County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24 boards per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Douglas County came out on top in a nail-biter against Heritage in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 54-51. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Heritage's Caelan Debolt, who went 7-for-11 en route to 23 points and five steals. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Douglas County to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
