The Cyprus Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a serious blow against Dixie, falling 97-22. Cyprus has struggled against Dixie recently, as their game on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Cyprus had strong showings from Awan Dut, who scored nine points along with three blocks, and Stone Tia, who scored two points. Dut is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season.
Dixie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyle Lemke led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Breckon Robinson, who scored 20 points along with seven assists.
Cyprus' loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 0-3. As for Dixie, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Cyprus will head out on the road to face off against Snow Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Snow Canyon presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cyprus in Utah (Snow Canyon is ranked 20th, while Cyprus is ranked 107th). As for Dixie, they will be playing at home against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Thursday.
