Friday just wasn't the day for Corvian Community's offense. They lost 15-0 to Lincoln Charter last Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly 15 runs.
Meanwhile, Pine Lake Prep won against Christ the King last Tuesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again last Friday. Pine Lake Prep blew past Christ the King 17-2. Fans of the Pride have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Emma Rette made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Rette was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Pine Lake Prep got a massive performance out of Ava Cornacchione, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Cornacchione launched this season. Another player making a difference was Kristen Armstrong, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Pine Lake Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Corvian Community's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Pine Lake Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Corvian Community has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pine Lake Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
