The Durham School of the Arts Bulldogs won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were outmatched by Southern Durham on the road and fell 84-50. Durham School of the Arts has struggled against the Spartans recently, as their contest on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Durham School of the Arts' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darryn Johnson, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Josiah Dorsette, who scored eight points along with five assists and four steals.
Durham School of the Arts struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Southern Durham pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Jackson Keith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Southern Durham, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Keith hasn't dropped below 16 points for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Quan Bowling, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Durham School of the Arts has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Southern Durham, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
Durham School of the Arts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Granville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 20 games -- so hopefully the Bulldogs like a good challenge. As for Southern Durham, they will head out on the road to challenge the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Louisburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Spartans are ranked 60th).
