The Sequoyah Chiefs suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They took a serious blow against River Ridge, falling 58-30. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sequoyah has scored all season.
Addison Ghorley and Sayler Davies certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Ghorley scored 11 points along with two steals, while Davies scored six points. Ghorley hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Sequoyah struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as River Ridge pulled down 24 offensive rebounds.
River Ridge was led to victory by Allie Sweet and Kayla Cleaveland. Sweet scored six points along with 16 rebounds and four steals, while Cleaveland dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sweet hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 12 straight games. Another player making a difference was Finley Parker, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Sequoyah has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season. As for River Ridge, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sequoyah will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Woodstock at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Woodstock will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Sequoyah is ranked 58th). As for River Ridge, they will head out on the road to square off against Allatoona at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Allatoona comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last 13 games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
