Park Tudor and Covenant Christian are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Park Tudor's victory against Pike wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers never let the Red Devils get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Tuesday.
Park Tudor secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Dominic Gasper, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Covenant Christian and Indianapolis Kings, and Covenant Christian kept the tradition alive. The Warriors put the hurt on Indianapolis Kings with a sharp 13-4 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with Indianapolis Kings: they've now won eight in a row.
Nolan Guzman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Covenant Christian got a big performance out of Blake Cope, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Cope is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 11-1 (and 6-10 when he doesn't). Eli Kegeris was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Covenant Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Park Tudor's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Covenant Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 17-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Park Tudor has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Covenant Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Park Tudor's way against Covenant Christian in their previous matchup back in April, as Park Tudor made off with an 11-1 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
