After flying high against Nicholas County last Monday, Independence came back down to earth. The Independence Patriots fell just short of the Shady Spring Tigers by a score of 12-11 on Tuesday. Independence got a big performance out of Alli Hypes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Allie Warden was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
On Shady Spring's side, Raegan Lane made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Lane has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Lane was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Annabelle Sturgill was incredible, going 1-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn Blankenship, who went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and an RBI.
Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Shady Spring, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.
