Aiken extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping them down to 2-14. They fell 16-13 to the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-8 back in March.
Ali Rice was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Raylan Leatherwood led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Maddie Zeigler was another key player, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
As for Brookland-Cayce, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Brookland-Cayce's side, they got a massive performance out of Alyssa Bullis, who went 3-for-6 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was Bullis' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emerson Lemox, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Coming up, Aiken will welcome Midland Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Brookland-Cayce, they will head out on the road to face off against Gilbert at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bearcats will need to watch out since the Indians have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
