The Kearns Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Summit. Kearns found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up nine fewer assists than your opponent.
Kearns lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Crystal Afemata - marasco, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Kylee Glade was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five steals.
Kearns struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Emma Broadbent, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 18 rebounds for South Summit. The game was Broadbent's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby Clegg, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Kearns' defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for South Summit, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
