Northern is 1-9 against Southern since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Northern entered their tilt with Shanksville Stonycreek with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Northern strolled past Shanksville Stonycreek with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 64-46. Given Northern's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 213th in Maryland, while Shanksville Stonycreek is ranked 615th in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Southern came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against GVCS Broadfording by a score of 66-59. That's two games straight that Southern has won by exactly seven points.
Northern has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season. As for Southern, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Northern came up short against Southern when the teams last played back in January, falling 61-49. Can Northern avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
