The Woodruff Wolverines's six-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 50-38 win over Chester. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Woodruff also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Woodruff's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sadie Burnette led the charge by scoring 18 points along with eight steals and four blocks. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Burnette has scored at least 25% of Woodruff's points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Robinson, who scored 16 points along with five steals.
Woodruff's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10. As for Chester, their defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-5.
Woodruff will challenge Emerald at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chester, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union County comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
