Basketball Recap: Silver Creek Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Luke Schmeeckle and Cooper Herchert

Silver Creek was the 80-65 winner over Frederick when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Silver Creek Raptors fell 59-51 to the Frederick Golden Eagles on Thursday. The Raptors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Silver Creek's loss came despite strong showings from Cooper Herchert and Luke Schmeeckle. Herchert dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Schmeeckle posted 11 points and five boards. That's the most rebounds Schmeeckle has posted since back in December of 2023.

Even though they lost, Silver Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Frederick got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Olly Justice out in front who went 8 of 15 en route to 21 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Justice has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Dante Lechuga was another key player, going 5 for 12 on his way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Silver Creek's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Frederick, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-9 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Silver Creek will host Broomfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Broomfield has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 228 points over their last three games. As for Frederick, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Erie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Frederick is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season.
