Baseball Recap: Avon Sets Scoring Season-High Against North Central

Avon barely beat North Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Orioles were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Panthers on Saturday. The Orioles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Isaac Kramer looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, Avon got a massive performance out of Clayton Lenz, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Lenz is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Layne Harman, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Avon's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 17-11. As for North Central, their loss dropped their record down to 16-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will face off against Decatur Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Orioles surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Central, they will square off against Lawrence Central at 10:00 a.m. on June 2.
