The Haverling Rams will face off against the Dansville Mustangs at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Haverling is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Monday just wasn't the day for Haverling's offense. They fell 4-0 to Wayland-Cohocton last Monday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Rams' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Haverling saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dante Nealey, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double was Nealey's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Dansville hadn't done well against Newark recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Reds with a sharp 7-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Dansville let Jake Kreiley and Brady Henchen run wild. Kreiley went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Henchen went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Henchen has become a key player for Dansville: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Delaney, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
Haverling moved to 6-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Dansville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Haverling has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dansville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Haverling came out on top in a nail-biter against Dansville in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 10-8. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
