Basketball Recap: Lawrence County Falls Despite Big Games from Braylon Dame and Jackson Smith

Lawrence County lost against Winfield back in December of 2016 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lawrence County Red Devils fell 69-57 to the Winfield Pirates. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lawrence County's loss came despite strong showings from Jackson Smith and Braylon Dame. Smith went 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Dame posted 17 points. The match was Dame's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Boyll, who had seven points.

Even though they lost, Lawrence County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Lawrence County's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Winfield, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.

Lawrence County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 63-37 victory against Marion County on the 27th. As for Winfield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 50-20 win against Red Bay on the 27th.
