4A Region 2 recap Oct. 31, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Senatobia, who took down 124th ranked Senatobia, 18-14.
New Albany extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 2 this week by beating Lewisburg, 14-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
New Albany's dynamic duo of Spencer Day and Austin Howard proved tough for the Patriots to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Day threw for 79 yards and one touchdown and Howard had 63 yards receiving. Day helped New Albany's passing attack out by catching one ball for 20 yards.
DK Buford provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lafayette defeated North Pontotoc. He completed three passes for 56 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 134 yards. Buford's favorite target this week was Joshua Barry, who caught two passes for 42 yards.
The Vikings' Trey Jolly and Marcus Green have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Jolly has thrown for 2319 yards this season, while Green, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 48 catches for 906 yards. Boston Newsome from Ron Price's team leads the league in rushing with 1753 yards.
Tevin Wooten has rushed for 985 yards on 112 carries so far this year.
North Pontotoc's Green is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 94 receiving yards against Yazoo County to hit that benchmark.
The Bulldogs were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, New Albany defeated Lewisburg 14-13.
