The Jurupa Hills Spartans will head out to take on the Summit SkyHawks at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Jurupa Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Kaiser hit Jurupa Hills with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans came up short against the Cats, falling 10-3. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jurupa Hills got a good showing from Juliana Sepulvida, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs Sepulvida has allowed since back in February.
At the plate, Jurupa Hills saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylin Olguin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Isabela Torres, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Summit was able to grind out a solid win over Carter on Wednesday, taking the game 8-5.
Desi Varerla looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Summit let Isabella Smith and Clarissa Leon run wild. Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Leon got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Cardona, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Summit pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Jurupa Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Jurupa Hills might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from Summit in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
