Baseball Recap: Southern's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Southern waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Ranburne Bulldogs.

Andy Brito was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lariel Torres and Richard Hernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Torres scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Hernandez scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Marsean Rogers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Southern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.

Southern's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ranburne, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.

Coincidentally, Southern and Ranburne will both be playing Pell City the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will head out to face the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Trojans will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
