They came out on top against California by a score of 33-24. That's another feather in the cap for Clayton Valley Charter, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Clayton Valley Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyson Lovett led the charge by throwing for 112 yards and two touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Clayton Valley Charter also got a significant boost from Hayezon Jackson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 151 yards.
California's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Devan Love, who rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Jayden Macedo was another key contributor, throwing for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
Clayton Valley Charter's victory bumped their record up to 5-5. As for California, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
Clayton Valley Charter will head out on the road to face off against De La Salle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. De La Salle knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Clayton Valley Charter likes a good challenge. As for California, they will stay at home for another week and welcome Foothill at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. Foothill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 376th, while California is ranked 82nd).
